Drumming Up the Discussion Around Critical Policy Changes

UH Law Center and Hobby School of Public Affairs have officially announced link-up to host webinar on navigating policy changes.

Named as “Key Policy Considerations for the Administration,” the stated webinar will be held virtually from 2-6 p.m. on Thursday, March 6. Talk about the same on a slightly deeper level, this half-day virtual event will feature four panel discussions and presenters.

The first discussion, which will be focused on economic policy, is going to be moderated by Jim Granato, Dean of Hobby School, with panelists like Elizabeth Trujillo, Mary Ann & Lawrence E. Faust Professor of Law at UHLC; Bret Wells, Professor of Law and John Mixon Chair at UHLC and Sunny Wong, Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Professor at the Hobby School of Public Affairs, joining in.

“In this rapidly evolving moment of transition, it is crucial that we bring together scholars and experts to engage in thoughtful and strategic discussions about the key policy challenges facing our nation,” said Leonard M. Baynes, Dean at UH Law Center. “The insights shared in this webinar can help shape the conversation and influence future policy decisions that impact our communities, economy and the environment.”

Next up, we have a discussion prepared around the topic of higher education. This one is set to be moderated by Baynes, who will be joined by Seth Chandler, Law Foundation Professor of Law at UHLC; Jeronimo Cortina, Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science and Director of Faculty Research Initiatives and Population Health at UH; as well as Dr. Catherine “Cathy” Horn, the Dean of UH’s College of Education.

Moving on to our third discussion in line, it will delve into immigration. Moderated by by J. Anna Cabot, Assistant Dean of Clinical Programs and Director of the Immigration Clinic at UHLC, this particular discussion will have Gabriel “Jack” Chin, Edward L. Barrett Jr. Chair of Law and Martin Luther King Jr. Professor of Law at the University of California – Davis; Charles Foster, a partner at Foster LLP; and Daniel I. Morales, Associate Professor of Law and the Dwight Olds Chair at UHLC, in the form of panelists.

Rounding up highlights would be a discussion on energy and environmental policy. More on that would reveal how the given facet of the whole webinar will be moderated by Pablo Pinto, a distinguished professor of the Hobby School of Public Affairs and Director of the Center for Public Policy.

Apart from that, there will be Marcilynn Burke, Dean and Mitchell Franklin Professor of Law at Tulane University; Tracy Hester, Instructional Professor of Law at the Law Center and Co-Director of the Energy, Environment and Natural Resources (EENR) Center; and Gina S. Warren, Professor of Law, A.L. O’Quinn Chair in Environmental Studies and Co-Director of the Energy, Environment and Natural Resources (EENR) Center at UHLC.

Making this all the more significant is University of Houston Law Center’s stature as a dynamic, top-tier law school. The institution presently offers top-ranked UHLC’s Health Law, Intellectual Property Law, and Part-time programs, programs that are also acknowledged in the U.S. News Top 10.

As for the Hobby School of Public Affairs, it is a rich hub of public affairs education, research and civic engagement. The institution is, at the moment, focused on public policy issues, contributing to conversations on policy options, and addressing concerns important to Texans.
