New funding values the legal technology startup at $8.8 billion as demand for AI-powered legal services continues to grow
New York and Stockholm, 23 October 2026 – Legal technology is attracting growing investor attention as law firms and corporate legal departments look for ways to improve efficiency. Adding to this momentum, Legora, a Swedish legal artificial intelligence (AI) startup, has raised $550 million in a Series E funding round, bringing its valuation to $8.8 billion. The round was led by Atreides Management, with participation from new and existing investors.
Founded in 2023, Legora develops AI software that helps legal professionals research cases, review contracts, prepare documents and manage complex legal workflows. By reducing the time spent on repetitive tasks, the platform aims to help lawyers focus on legal analysis, strategic decisions and client advice.
The latest investment comes as Legora reports strong business growth. The company has announced that its annual recurring revenue (ARR), which estimates the yearly value of ongoing subscription revenue, has crossed $200 million. According to the company, its ARR increased from $1 million to $100 million in less than 18 months, with the next $100 million added in under six months.
The new funding will support Legora's expansion across North America, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. The company also plans to invest in its legal AI platform, Legora aOS, which is designed to help lawyers and AI agents work together on complex tasks.
The platform aims to support activities such as legal research, document review, automated legal intake and horizon scanning. The latter helps legal teams identify upcoming regulatory changes and developments that could affect their clients or businesses.
The United States has become Legora's largest market by revenue. The company is also expanding among corporate legal departments, where businesses increasingly need technology to manage large volumes of contracts, compliance requirements and internal requests.
A major development in legal technology is the shift from AI tools that answer individual questions to systems capable of handling multiple connected tasks. Known as agentic AI, these systems can help gather information, review documents and prepare initial drafts within a broader workflow.
For law firms managing complex cases and corporate transactions, these capabilities could reduce administrative workloads and speed up document processing. However, lawyers must continue to verify AI-generated information, check legal sources and apply professional judgment before relying on the results. Accuracy, confidentiality and data security remain essential considerations.
According to company announcements, Legora serves more than 140,000 legal professionals across over 2,400 law firms and in-house legal teams in more than 80 markets. It has also expanded its workforce to more than 1,000 employees across 18 offices.
The funding highlights growing investor interest in enterprise AI solutions designed for specialised industries. For Legora, the next challenge will be to sustain its growth while developing reliable technology that meets the needs of legal professionals.
As AI adoption increases across the legal sector, platforms that combine practical automation with dependable performance could find opportunities to build lasting relationships with law firms and corporate clients. Legora's latest funding marks another significant development in the evolving legal technology market.
